Description: With the recognition that loss is a universally shared experience, loss education has received much attention in recent years. Increased sensitivity to the fact that children suffer losses in our society has broadened our awareness that grieving crosses all cultures, ages, religions and sexes. Loss binds us together in a common cycle of suffering and healing. Understanding the process and developing the ability to verbalize the experience can move us more quickly toward health, and a depth of insight which will enrich our lives.
Windows: Healing and Helping Through Loss is divided into two parts. Part I, "When You Have Lost," is designed to teach participants about the loss process and to provide an opportunity for them to heal some of their unresolved losses. Because we have all lost something or someone at some time, Part I is for everyone ages 12 and older. Not only will it help heal old wounds, but it will teach participants how to effectively handle future losses.
In Part Il, "When You Want To Help," the skills needed to help others handle loss are systematically taught in a six-step model. The process builds on the information in Part I and can be effectively taught to anyone interested in helping others-from a preteen student to an experienced counseling professional.
Age Groups: None specified.
