Description: Be inspired by the stories of minor biblical characters and the major lessons they teach us.
We hear a lot about some of the "big" names in the Bible. Moses. Mary. Paul. But what about those who have a small mention, or whose names aren’t even known? What might they have to teach us about the faith journey? Footnotes is a unique four-week study that introduces us to some people who are just a brief blip on the screen of the Bible timeline, just a footnote in biblical story, —people it would be easy to overlook but we shouldn’t underestimate. As you journey through this four-week study, you will be inspired by the backstories of these people of faith who show us that even minor players can teach major lessons.
Week 1
In this video segment Julie explores what Tychicus, a ministry aide of the apostle Paul, has to teach us about being a “bridge” — someone who connects, supports, serves, and loves others. We learn from his life that being a helper who works behind the scenes is incredibly important and even vital to God’s kingdom work.
Week 2
This week Julie unpacks some lessons we can learn from a messenger of the Resurrection named Joanna. Though she’s mentioned only a couple of times in the Gospel of Luke, she reminds us that we’re all called to give freely of ourselves and what we have to continue Jesus’ mission and work in the world.
Week 3
In this video segment Julie offers insights from the life of Epaphras. Though his contribution wasn’t visible or even tangible, he models for us devotion to prayer, teaching us what it means to wrestle in prayer for the church and those we love.
Week 4
In this final video Julie introduces us to Quirinius, the governor of Syria we read about in Luke 2:2. His life teaches us that although life often does not turn out as we might expect, our faithful God is always at work, even when we can’t see it. Through his story we’re encouraged to entrust our lives and legacies to God and His plan.
